Register Scouts with Special Needs
There isn’t a special registration process for Scouts with disabilities or special needs — every Scout registers the same way. If a disability may prevent your Scout from completing rank requirements before age 18, please see the section on “Registration Beyond the Age of Eligibility” below. We encourage parents to talk openly with troop leaders about any accommodations their Scout might need. Simple adjustments are often all it takes to help a Scout succeed, and we’re committed to making those whenever possible. Health or mobility concerns are noted on the Annual Health and Medical Record, which leaders keep on hand for safety. Because this information isn’t shared widely with camp or event staff, many parents also choose to talk directly with leaders or staff working closely with their Scout about strategies that will help. The Special Needs Scouting Committee is also available as a resource for ideas, guidance, and support.
At Troop 345, our leaders work hard to understand each Scout’s needs by asking parents to complete medical forms and Scout information papers. This helps us make the right accommodations, provide the right support, and ensure every Scout has the chance to thrive on their Scouting journey.
