The Goals of Scouting
Scouting is more than just camping trips and uniforms — it’s about becoming the best version of yourself while having a ton of fun along the way. Everything we do in Scouting has a purpose. Whether it’s learning how to build a fire, planning an outing with your patrol, or leading a service project, it all connects back to the Aims of Scouting.
The Three Aims of Scouting
Character Development – Becoming trustworthy, helpful, and prepared for life.
Citizenship Training – Learning how to be a responsible, active member of your community.
Personal Fitness – Growing strong in body, mind, and spirit.
These goals are the foundation of everything we do in Scouting.
How We Reach Those Goals
Ideals
The Scout Oath, Scout Law, Motto, and Slogan aren’t just words — they’re a challenge. Scouts measure themselves against these ideals every day and push themselves to grow stronger, braver, and kinder.
Patrols
Scouting is not something you do alone. In patrols, small teams of Scouts work together, plan activities, and make decisions. It’s real leadership and teamwork — and it’s fun because you’re doing it with your friends.
Outdoor Adventure
Scouting comes alive outdoors. Campouts, hikes, and high-adventure trips give Scouts a chance to practice skills, explore nature, and challenge themselves. The outdoors is our classroom — and the adventure is what makes Scouting unforgettable.
Advancement
Every rank, every merit badge, every requirement is a step on your personal journey. Scouts set goals, overcome challenges, and celebrate victories. Each achievement builds confidence, leadership, and pride.
Role Models
Scouts learn from great leaders. Adults in Scouting set the example and guide you along the way, but they also let Scouts lead, make decisions, and grow.
Personal Growth
From community service to the daily Good Turn, Scouts learn the value of helping others. Along the way, they discover their own strengths, beliefs, and goals.
Leadership Development
Scouting teaches real leadership — not just in theory, but in action. Scouts get to lead their patrols, run activities, and even plan entire campouts. You’ll learn how to guide others, make decisions, and be a leader others can count on.
Why We Camp, Why We Adventure, Why We Serve
Every campout, hike, service project, and troop meeting has a bigger purpose. It’s not just about pitching a tent or earning a badge — it’s about becoming prepared for life. Scouting builds friendships, teaches life skills, and creates memories you’ll never forget.
That’s why we do what we do. That’s Scouting.
